MOONWORLD: Arcade Mode
*~100MB*
controls:
WASD to move
Space to Jump
Left Shift to Sprint
Q to zoom camera
Left Click or E to shoot grapple
(keep an eye on the crosshair, it highlights when you are within range of an object)
(keep an eye on the grapple hook, so you know if the line is out / retracted)
this is a more performant republication of MOONWORLD with a few changes. players move faster, jump further & can sprint. the starting area and introduction is cut so players can jump straight into the action.
the goal is simple: grapple & swing to the top of the map. but its not easy. the whole map is a big puzzle and I don't even know how to get to the top most of the time.
talk to this star.
you won't get very far without a mouse & keyboard. track-pad gamers beware!
i made MOONWORLD: Arcade Mode because i wanted to see the fastest ways players can get to the top. the map is wild, so get a good line down and keep pushing until you get a good time. post your results in the comments. first person to get a 1:12 is a winner

I had played MOONWORLD before for about 5 hours, and I had gone to quite a few places but never made it to the stars.
This arcade version has greatly enhanced my running speed and jumping ability, so I can, for example, use my hook to climb up uneven cylindrical buildings, which makes it much easier to control and enjoy a different kind of playing experience.
In the past, I liked the sense of leisurely exploration, using my head to break through the terrain one by one and enjoying the ever-changing scenery, but this time I enjoyed the exhilarating feeling of making use of the physicality of the game, and it made me want to play it again and again to hone my character control skills.
I played the arcade version on Google Chrome, but the problem was that the mouse cursor became heavy and the viewpoint suddenly jumped as I played.
I'd be happy if there was a downloadable version of this game, if not just the WebGL version!
I did 1:08, although there are still areas where the movement can be refined!
absolutely incredible. perfect in my eyes. thank you for this
Is there an unexplained mechanic why the grapple sometimes breaks, or is it just a bug?
love the visuals, and mostly like struggling to get to places, but losing all progress to the grapple breaking made me sad
it is surprisingly punishing :( but thanks! yeah you are right. the grapple rope is (partly) a physical object, and it 'breaks' when it starts touching & wrapping around an object with too many edges. it can wrap around one or two edges, but anything more complex will cause it to snap. this is because otherwise, the rope would get tangled up in the objects and cause big problems. so you want to make sure your rope doesnt get snagged on stuff as you go . hope this helps
I love the art style. It was super fun just swinging around and exploring
